In the late 19th century, economist Thorstein Veblen coined the phrase “conspicuous consumption” to describe the lavish behaviors of the nouveau riche class that emerged after the Industrial Revolution. Seeing as it’s 2008, however, it seems fair for me to redefine it as one that describes primarily, my love of eating food and my passion for writing about it in explicit detail, as well as my general fascination with “things” that I like to make my own so that I can study them, think about them, describe them, share my thoughts about them, basically consume them in whatever fashion allows me to do this. In short, if you love food and have an abnormal tendency to analyze endlessly, then you may be at least mildy entertained by what’s written here.
I’m so glad you finally started your blog! Yay! The name is great. (and you know I love the alliteration) I only wish I could accompany you to your restaurant trips for your “research”. But, I’m excited to vicariously enjoy the amazing food in NY through your blog until my next visit back to NYC. I can’t wait to read the next post!
carol, i’ve missed our food adventures, too! i’m happy that i can give you a piece of nyc until you’re back for a visit and we get to hit up some of our faves! and yes, i know you love the alliteration, ms. teacher.
Hi Caroline!
I love your site – I am, like you, weirdly obsessed with consuming and commenting on tasty treats (not to mention other randomness).
I saw that you were not impressed with Le Pain Quotidien’s muffin, but have you tried the hummus (not as a muffin substitute…but in general)? I am in the process of writing an ode to this delightful dip on my site: http://www.laviedekelly.com
Check it out (the site and the hummus) – hopefully both will not disapoint
Bon week-end,
Kelly
Thanks so much, Kelly! I haven’t had the hummus at Le Pain Quotidien, but I’m intrigued – I’ll have to check out your post when it’s up! By the way, that bowl of oatmeal looks divine…
